[How To] Change your Boot Animation and Down Animation
« on: September 04, 2012, 09:12:00 PM »
Changing your bootanimation.zip and/or downanimation.zip (GB and higher only) may seem like a daunting task, but it is easier than you may think.

1) Find the Boot Animation or Down Animation that you wish to use on the internet.
     A) HINT: You can find more than 300 Boot Animations within Rom Toolbox Lite/Pro found on the market here:
          Rom Toolbox Lite: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolbox&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
          Rom Toolbox Pro: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro&feature=nav_other#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDYsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94cHJvIl0.

2) Move the boot/down animation you have chosen to your SD card.

3) Determine where your original boot and down animations are installed.
     A) Common Locations are as follows:
          i) /system/media/
          ii) /system/customize/resources/
          iii) /data/local/
     B) The default location for Android is: /system/media/ but many custom roms move the animations to a different location.

4) Change the name of the original animation to something that identifies it as the original. This will be your permanent backup and only needs to be done with the original .zip file. Once you have done this the first time, you do not need to do it again.

5) Move the animation you download from your SD card to the location you identified earlier with the original animation.

6) Finally, make sure the permissions of the new animation file match the original file exactly.

7) Reboot and enjoy!

**** As always, please flash responsibly. I am not responsible if you brick, break, screw-up, throw, or otherwise destroy your phone. Make sure you understand the consequences along with the benefits of the modifications you make to your phone. And finally, ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST. ****
